Are you all ready to review my personal favorite images I took in Kansas City of Weddings and Engagements in 2025?
“Not another one!” you scream. I’m also sick of all these lists, and don’t get me started on all the “2025 Wrapped” lists that were handed out from all the apps you deigned to sign up for. Indulge me as I reflect upon my year.
In the past, I would try to select an image from every single shoot I did. But this year I curated this selection with images where, when I took them, a tiny tingle of joy shot through me. A joy that said, look, that’s different. That’s capturing the uniqueness of the day, the environment, the relationship. Look how far you’ve come. Look how you have evolved as a photographer.
This curation shows where I am stylistically as a photographer.
When I started this year, I wanted to focus all on color. I wanted to make my grid look so aesthetically perfect. I do still try to make everything pleasing, but then I don’t think it shows the diverse range I have as a photographer. I didn’t share a single black and white image as the first image on my instagram this year. Not a single one. And look at how many black and white images I love! So I think that will have to change in 2026. I also have been experimenting with showing off the environment with touches of anonymous inclusion. Instead of a photo of cake slices, maybe a hand reaching for a slice. Instead of cufflinks sitting on shelf, maybe a best man helping the groom put them on. What makes these mundane things interesting is the people who value them.
I transitioned from rigid to customized packages
This year was about transitioning from the consistent package that I have offered from day one of my business, to offering a customized package to each couple based on their plans. And not on what I think the plan is. This allowed my couples to have, not only, the flexibility with their budget, but also the space to think about what they truly value for their wedding. What do I mean by that? Well, you can find a perfectly curated wedding day album from start to finish on pinterest. You could replicate that exact wedding if you wanted. But then…where is the intention? I stopped putting every wedding I photographed into a checkbox of traditional events and started asking more questions. It opened up me to new experiences as a photographer to document. I do not have words to describe the absolute joy I have documenting a courthouse wedding one day, and full 10 hour wedding the next day with a live band the next. It keeps me on my toes and I love every second of it.
Here is to another year of capturing some beautiful love stories
My branding is documenting you. It’s not documenting a certain aesthetic, a certain timeline or a certain check list. It’s documenting people, their joy, and the environment that supports these moments.
