Not all weddings have to look and feel the same, and while there are definitely some classics when it comes to colors, one of the best ways to make your wedding unique is by incorporating bold wedding colors!

As a wedding photographer, I have seen every style and aesthetic when it comes to what your wedding day looks like. But there is something really special and fun about having a colorful wedding. It truly creates such a unique atmosphere and is so much fun to photograph!

So, let’s take a look at how Lexi and Dominic incorporate bold wedding colors to completely transform their wedding at UNION into a day they will never forget!

Lexi and Dominic’s Bold, Colorful Wedding at UNION

Lexi and Dominic’s wedding had so much color! Honestly, I couldn’t be more obsessed! From a vibrant blue-and-pink wedding cake to colorful candles on the reception tables to their floral arrangements, color was an essential part of their day.

I thought this was an important detail to focus on because UNION is full of bricks, and adding in pops of color really put this venue in its best light.  Neutral palettes are always nice, but how fun is it to incorporate color into your day?

For me, there’s something truly unforgettable about weddings that lean into expressing their personalities and vibe through color. Color holds emotion, and when it’s thoughtfully woven into a wedding day, it turns a beautiful moment into something unforgettable!

Everything about Lexi and Dominic’s day was about embracing color, being totally themselves in front of the camera, and all the moments (both big and small) throughout their wedding! I absolutely adored photographing these two, and they were totally my vibe!

The great thing about adding color to your wedding is that you get to decide just where and when you want to have these color pops. You can incorporate your bold wedding colors in just your outfits, or have a few accents throughout the space. Or you can build it into every part of your day to create such a unique aesthetic.

I absolutely loved how these two incorporated colors and had them interspersed throughout their outfits, all of the stunning florals, and the smaller accents like name plates, candles, and tablecloths.

Lexi and Dom gave me so many fun moments to photograph. If you’d like to see more from these two and what they did for their engagement session (which included pizza), you can check it out here

Unique moments from Lexi and Dominic’s wedding

There were so many special moments from Lexi and Dominic’s day, but here are some of my favorites:

The first look Lexi shared with her Dad

This was SO freaking cute! Lexi’s dad got so emotional, and it was such a special moment shared between the two of them. Lexi also gifted him an adorable “Father of the Bride” tie pin.

Lexi going barefoot for golden hour photos

By this time of the day, Lexi was so over her wedding heels, and I love that instead of continuing to be uncomfortable, she ditched her heels entirely! She was able to run and twirl around with Dom on the rooftop of the UNION right at sunset. It was so dreamy.

Dominic’s boutonniere

I have never seen such a cool boutonniere for a groom before! Bloom 47 did an amazing job! Not only was the boutonniere full of color, but it was also a bit bigger, making it truly eye-catching.

Dom’s groomsmen surprising him with a special gift

Dom’s groomsmen had a surprise for him that featured hilarious socks of the bride and groom, and I’m so happy I was there to photograph this moment! I coordinated with the Best Man to make sure Dom was truly caught off guard.

Picking the Right Venue for a Colorful Wedding

One thing that is super important about planning a colorful wedding is picking the right venue. My advice is to look for one of two things:

  1. A venue that is open and isn’t overly decorated, so you have a blank slate you can transform into whatever you want.
  2. A venue that is already colorful and matches the colors and aesthetic you are shooting for, (which is a bit more difficult to find). You can check out one of my faves here

You want to make sure that your venue and the natural vibe that it has aren’t going to compete with what you have planned for your big day. This is why I loved their choice of UNION as their venue.

UNION in Kansas City is a chic, modern, industrial-style wedding venue located in the heart of Downtown Kansas City in the Crossroad district. Inside, you’ll find exposed brick, high ceilings, and large windows that let in lots of natural light.  It has the capacity to accommodate 200 guests for both your ceremony and reception.

One of my favorite things about this venue? You can completely transform this space to match your wedding vision – it gives you the perfect blank slate to work with to create the wedding of your dreams and to be as creative as you want to be!

The venue is multi-level, with a spacious getting-ready suite and a speakeasy downstairs as an additional getting-ready room. Another standout feature of this venue is the rooftop, which is perfect for golden hour photos! Plus, you’ll have the KC skyline behind you!

The venue also offers you an incredible array of services and amenities, some of which include wedding planning, additional add-on services that include a room flip, photo booth, etc, and assistance with your beverages. You’ll truly feel like you have everything you need for your day!

Kind words from Dominic and Lexi on working together

“Kelsey was an amazing addition to our wedding. From the beginning, she made us feel comfortable and let us be our authentic selves at the engagement shoot. She sensed our need for direction during all photographs and managed to capture some of the most authentic laughs and smiles. Kelsey seamlessly blended in when needed during the ceremony while still capturing every detail. I cannot recommend her enough if you are looking for a photographer for your next chapter.”
