Keep reading to discover more about Loose Park and why you should consider planning your family session here!

Why Loose Park is the Best Location for Family Photos in Kansas City
Loose Park is my favorite location to plan family photo sessions, and there’s a good reason why this is such a sought-after location for photos. You just can’t top the scenery, beauty, and the various backdrops. Furthermore, it also photographs beautifully at any time of the year!
Kids equally love the park just as much as their parents, and even though it’s a public park, it still feels private. You won’t have to worry about bumping into large crowds of people or having curious onlookers in the backdrop of your images (just don’t plan your session on prom weekend or at the peak of wedding season).
The park offers you a playful, candid backdrop, and there’s so much variety throughout the park, from the willow trees, wide open lawns, fountains, the rose garden, woods, and much, much more.
Another reason I love this park is its convenient location – it’s easy for families to get to without having to leave the city, as it’s super close to the Plaza. Plus, it’s a peaceful, laid-back environment for photographing kids.

The 4 Best Spots Inside Loose Park for Family Photos
Loose Park is quite large, and after photographing many family sessions at Loose Park, these are my top spots I would recommend including in your session!
With that being said, there are many other backdrop options you could choose from. If there’s another part of the park you’d like to include in your session, we can definitely include it as well as explore the park during our time together.
The pond
The pond is a tranquil spot with a fountain in the middle, and you’ll be immersed in lush greenery on every side. It also has a charming wooden bridge, which is another great spot for photos!
The Rose Garden
Currently, there are about 3,000 roses of nearly 130 varieties in the 1.5-acre garden, creating a colorful, eye-catching backdrop! Of course, the blooms come and go depending on the season. May-July is the prime time to get images with the roses.
The pine trees
The pine trees are located next to the tennis courts in the park, and it’s a beautiful spot to take photos. They look good all year round and are a perfect spot when it’s winter and a lot of the other options are brown!
Next to the open fields
You can’t go wrong with taking photos next to the large open fields in the park that create a serene backdrop for your images.

When Is the Best Time of Year to Plan a Family Session at Loose Park?
Each season has something different to offer you! Here’s what you can expect depending on the time of year you choose to schedule your family session:
Fall
Fall is a favorite time of year for families to plan their sessions at Loose Park, as the fall foliage and autumn colors are stunning! This time of year brings with it cooler weather and breezy days. Peak fall color generally happens between mid-October and early November!

Spring
Everything will be in full bloom at this time of year, and the park is absolutely breathtaking in the spring. I love photographing all the different colors during the spring, and at this time of the year, the park gives off classic Kansas City vibes.

Summer
Summer brings with it beautiful weather and long, warm days. Everything is so green in the park during the summer, and it’s so much fun wandering around the park and exploring at this time of year during your session.

Winter
If you love winter, you and your family will love planning a winter session in the park – especially with snow! The park becomes a magical winter wonderland when it snows, and it’s very quiet at this time of year, so we’ll easily be able to photograph the best spots the park has to offer!
