From the very first message Becca sent me with her mood board, I knew this day was going to be something I had never seen before. COLOR. Everywhere. Intentional, vibrant, and completely full of personality.
These two did not come to play. They came to celebrate, and every single detail of their day reflected exactly who they are as a couple.

About the Pavilion Event Space in Kansas City
The Pavilion Event Space is located just east of downtown Kansas City in Independence, Missouri, conveniently situated near four major highways making it easily accessible for guests coming from all over the metro. With over 10,000 square feet of renovated event space, it is one of the most versatile wedding venues in the Kansas City area.
Inside, the ballroom features antique bronze ceilings, crystal chandeliers, hand scraped hickory hardwood floors, and 40 foot archways trimmed in stone. The space is elegant without being over the top, which makes it a beautiful blank canvas for couples who want to bring their own vision and personality to their wedding day.
Outside, the Open Air Chapel is situated on the same property, capable of seating over 300 guests. One of my favorite details about the Open Air Chapel is the flooring, a chevron pattern of alternating white and wooden stripes that adds such a beautiful visual element to ceremony photos. It is a stunning setting for couples who want an outdoor ceremony without leaving the venue property.
The venue also includes a Jr. Ballroom, perfect for cocktail hour, photo booths, or more intimate gatherings, along with a bridal suite, a day of coordinator, tables, chairs, full length linens, and centerpiece foundation pieces all included in your rental.
Why I Love the Pavilion Event Space for Weddings
One of the things I love most about the Pavilion Event Space is how much personality a couple can bring to it. The bones of the space are beautiful, but it is truly a blank canvas. Whether you are going for something classic and elegant or something bold, colorful, and completely unexpected like Becca and Skylar, this venue can hold it all.
The Open Air Chapel is also one of my favorite outdoor ceremony spaces in the entire Kansas City area. That chevron flooring photographs so beautifully, and the open air setting gives you this natural light that is just impossible to replicate indoors. Because the space is open, I also have so much room to move around during the ceremony and capture really unique perspectives without ever being disruptive to the moment. That kind of freedom as a photographer makes a huge difference in the variety and creativity of your final gallery.
Becca and Skylar’s Wedding Day at the Pavilion Event Space
Becca and Skylar’s wedding day started at the Crossroads Hotel, which gave us such a cool urban backdrop for getting ready photos and early portraits. Each bridesmaid wore a completely different color dress, creating this gorgeous rainbow of personalities surrounding Becca. And Becca’s bouquet? I have been photographing weddings for years and I had genuinely never seen anything like it.
Becca and Skylar shared their first look on the rooftop of the Crossroads Hotel, and it was such a beautiful and intimate moment with the Kansas City skyline stretching out behind them. From there we knocked out all of their wedding party photos right there at the Crossroads before heading over to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts for couple portraits. The architecture there is just stunning, and paired with Becca’s colorful details it made for some truly incredible images.
The best part? The Pavilion Event Space is only about 20 minutes from both of these locations, which means going off site for portraits is completely doable without eating up a huge chunk of your wedding day timeline. If you love the Pavilion but want a little variety in your gallery, it is absolutely worth considering.
The Ceremony
Becca and Skylar’s ceremony took place in the Open Air Chapel, and it was heartfelt, joyful, and completely full of cheers from their people. The colorful dresses, the florals, the energy in that space, everything came together in a way that felt so completely true to who they are as a couple.
And when they walked back down that aisle as husband and wife? Skylar dipped her right then and there. The crowd went absolutely wild. It was one of those spontaneous moments that you cannot plan or stage, and it is exactly the kind of thing I live for as a wedding photographer.
The Reception
If the ceremony set the tone, the reception turned it all the way up. The details Becca and Skylar brought to their reception were some of the most creative and personal I have ever seen. They had a handmade embroidered flag with their last name on it for their cake cutting, which was such a beautiful and unique touch. And during the dance party, large printed photos of their dogs were being tossed around the dance floor by their guests. It was pure joy from start to finish.
And then there was Becca’s dress change. She came back to the reception in a disco sequin dress that I was absolutely obsessed with. It was the perfect outfit for what the rest of the night had in store, because these two and their guests truly got down.
This is exactly what a Pavilion Event Space wedding looks like when a couple leans fully into who they are. Vibrant, joyful, and completely unforgettable.
