The Bauer in Kansas City (also known as The Bride and The Bauer) is hands-down one of my fave KC wedding venues! When C + T reached out to me about it and told me they were having their fall wedding at the Bauer, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to photograph their celebration!
This was also one of those rare weddings where I photographed Catie and Tony’s rehearsal dinner, which I truly LOVE doing (and I believe the extra coverage is always worth the investment)!
Keep reading for a behind-the-scenes look at Catie and Tony’s wedding at the Bauer and more info on this beautiful Kansas City wedding venue.

Charming, Vintage-style Fall Wedding At The Bauer In Kansas City
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at C + T’s wedding:
Rehearsal dinner at Lidia’s in Kansas City
C + T chose to have their rehearsal dinner at Lidia’s in Kansas City, a classy, upscale Italian restaurant in the Freight House District of the Kansas City Crossroads. They offer three private dining spaces to choose from, along with incredible food and service! To learn more about booking your rehearsal dinner at Lidia’s go here!
Catie and Tony had a beautiful rehearsal dinner that included an unforgettable speech from Catie’s 98-year-old grandmother. Their rehearsal dinner set the tone for their entire wedding weekend that was full of love and heartfelt moments.

Getting ready
Catie and Tony chose to get ready at the Crossroads Hotel, which was an ideal spot to get ready, as it was super close to the Bauer! Once Catie and Tony were both ready, they shared a dreamy first look on the rooftop of the Crossroads Hotel with the KC skyline behind them.
After their first look, we headed to the Bauer to take some couple portraits before their ceremony and carved out time so C + T could have a moment together to read their private vows to each other.
Private vows are something that I’m always honored when couples ask me to photograph, since this is such a big, special moment that happens just between you and your partner before the rest of your day unfolds!

The ceremony and reception
C + T’s ceremony was incredibly romantic. One beautiful thing to witness was Catie’s grandmother playing the violin at her ceremony. Catie and Tony’s ceremony/wedding was a bit different from a traditional wedding as they chose not to have any bridesmaids / groomsmen but they still had quite a large guest list. I loved that they chose to do this!
With their large guest list, it was very important to me to still get as many photos with their various guests as possible.
C + T held both their ceremony and reception in the Bauers’ main event space, a gorgeous, spacious room with string lights overhead that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. It also has absolutely stunning views.
To conclude their celebration, C + T chose to have an epic sparkler exit as a fun easy way to wrap up the night with their guests!

The couple’s review
“Kelsey was one of the first vendors we booked for our October wedding, & we were so very happy with the results. We loved taking advantage of her engagement photo session (definitely recommend!) to help us feel comfortable & vice versa & felt extremely well taken care of on our wedding day. Kelsey went above & beyond to help me (the bride) while I was getting ready, even down to helping me with my dress, shoes, etc. She was so on top of everything with our various family photos & we had lots of people comment on the efficiency. We were blown away with how quickly she got us our wedding preview, which was so fun to have & we have loved going through all of our photos again & again. We would definitely recommend Kelsey’s services!”

Should You Include Rehearsal Dinner Photography?
My answer? Yes, you definitely should! Not only does including this extra coverage allow me to get to know the family and friends before the big day a bit more, but photographing your rehearsal dinner also helps tell your entire wedding weekend story without any special moments/parts of your story missing from your final wedding gallery.
Some other reasons I recommend adding extra coverage to your day are that you’ll have more photos of you with your guests, you’ll have more variety in your final wedding gallery, and it will help you and your partner feel more comfortable in front of the camera ahead of the big day!
There are so many beautiful moments that unfold at rehearsal dinners – special speeches, candid moments between you and your people, intimate, lovely looks shared between you and your partner, and so forth that I believe are worth documenting and not to be missed!
However, when it comes to deciding to include (or not include) rehearsal dinner photography, remember there is no right or wrong answer – it all just depends on what you want documented from this special moment in your lives.
